This character is a Open Punctuation and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script. El carácter es también conocido como opening square bracket (1.0).

The glyph is not a composition. Its East Asian Width is narrow. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is mirrored into Right Square Bracket. U+005B prohibits a line break after it.

The CLDR project calls this character “corchete de apertura” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: abrir corchetes, corchete, paréntesis.
