U+00A8 Diaeresis
U+00A8 was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block Latin-1 Supplement in the Basic Multilingual Plane.
This character is a Símbolo modificador and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script.
The glyph is a compatibility composition of the glyphs Space, Combining Diaeresis. Its width in East Asian texts is determined by its context. It can be displayed wide or narrow. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is not mirrored. If its East Asian Width is “narrow”, U+00A8 forms a word with similar characters, which prevents a line break inside it. Otherwise it allows line breaks around it, except in some numeric contexts.
The CLDR project calls this character “diéresis” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: crema, tréma, umlaut.

La diéresis (¨), también llamada crema, es un signo ortográfico auxiliar y diacrítico que consiste en dos puntos puestos en medio de la línea del asta ascendente y de la altura de la x (a la misma altura que el puntito de la i).
Se encuentra a la misma altura que otros signos auxiliares como la tilde o el apóstrofo. Al igual que la tilde, únicamente puede agregarse a las vocales; aunque, en el caso de la i, se reemplaza su puntito por este signo.
En el idioma español tiene dos posibles usos lingüísticos: en ortografía y en métrica, los cuales serán explicados más adelante.
