U+00B1 Plus-Minus Sign
U+00B1 was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block Latin-1 Supplement in the Basic Multilingual Plane.
This character is a Puntuación matemática and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script. El carácter es también conocido como biquintile (astrological aspect: 144°).
The glyph is not a composition. Its width in East Asian texts is determined by its context. It can be displayed wide or narrow. In bidirectional text it is written as end of a European number, e.g., a currency symbol, from left to right. When changing direction it is not mirrored. U+00B1 prohibits a line break after it, if it is followed by a number.
The CLDR project calls this character “signo más/menos” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: mas, menos, signo.

El signo más menos (±) es un símbolo matemático que se emplea a menudo para indicar la precisión de una aproximación, o bien para denotar abreviadamente un valor que puede ser tanto positivo como negativo. En matemáticas, el signo ± indica que hay dos respuestas posibles: una positiva y otra negativa. En la mayoría de ciencias experimentales, indica todo un intervalo de valores que puede tomar una lectura.
Nótese que el signo ± no tiene el significado de «aproximadamente».
