U+00BB was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+0080 para U+00FF Latin-1 Supplement in the U+0000 para U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Puntuación final and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script. El carácter es también conocido como right guillemet.

The glyph is not a composition. It has no designated width in East Asian texts. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is mirrored into Glifo para U+00AB Left-Pointing Double Angle Quotation Mark. U+00BB prohibits a line break around it.

The CLDR project calls this character “comillas latinas de cierre” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: cierre, comillas angulares, comillas de cierre, comillas españolas, comillas francesas.

Las comillas son un signo ortográfico doble de puntuación. En español existen tres tipos de ellas: las angulares o españolas (« »), las altas o inglesas (“ ”) y las simples (‘ ’).[1]​

Son utilizadas para marcar niveles distintos en una oración. Las comillas angulares se escriben sobre la parte media del renglón, mientras que las altas y simples se escriben en la parte alta de este.

Por ser un signo doble, en español se escriben pegadas al primer y último signo (ya sea letra, número u otro signo ortográfico) del periodo que enmarcan, es decir, no se deja espacio alguno. Asimismo, se distingue entre comillas de apertura («, “ y ‘) y comillas de cierre (», ” y ’). Las comillas inglesas (altas) de apertura se llegan a presentar en forma simétrica a las de cierre, o en forma inversa a estas últimas.
