This character is a Uppercase Letter and is mainly used in the Latin script. Its lowercase variant is Glifo para U+014B Latin Small Letter Eng.

The glyph is not a composition. Its width in East Asian texts is determined by its context. It can be displayed wide or narrow. In bidirectional text it is written from left to right. La letra eng, Ŋ (mayúscula), ŋ (minúscula) fue originalmente creada como una combinación de n y g para el Alfabeto Fonético Internacional para representar el sonido velar nasal sonoro. Más tarde se adoptó a los sistemas de escrituras de una serie de lenguas con este sonido, como el sami y muchas lenguas aborígenes, especialmente en África y Oceanía.

Esta letra también ha ganado popularidad entre la gente que hace lenguajes artificiales. Aunque sería muy útil para escribir lenguas del Este y el Sudeste Asiático, aún no ha sido introducida allí.
