# U+2124Double-Struck Capital Z

U+2124 was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+2100 to U+214F Letterlike Symbols in the U+0000 to U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Uppercase Letter and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script. The character is also known as the set of integers.

The glyph is a font version of the glyph Latin Capital Letter Z. It has no designated width in East Asian texts. In bidirectional text it is written from left to right. When changing direction it is not mirrored. The word that U+2124 forms with similar adjacent characters prevents a line break inside it. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

An integer is the number zero (0), a positive natural number (1, 2, 3, etc.) or a negative integer (−1, −2, −3, etc.). The negative numbers are the additive inverses of the corresponding positive numbers. The set of all integers is often denoted by the boldface Z or blackboard bold $Z$.

The set of natural numbers $N$ is a subset of $Z$, which in turn is a subset of the set of all rational numbers $Q$, itself a subset of the real numbers $R$. Like the set of natural numbers, the set of integers $Z$ is countably infinite. An integer may be regarded as a real number that can be written without a fractional component. For example, 21, 4, 0, and −2048 are integers, while 9.75, 5+1/2, and 2 are not.

The integers form the smallest group and the smallest ring containing the natural numbers. In algebraic number theory, the integers are sometimes qualified as rational integers to distinguish them from the more general algebraic integers. In fact, (rational) integers are algebraic integers that are also rational numbers.
