U+30FB Katakana Middle Dot

U+30FB was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+30A0 para U+30FF Katakana in the U+0000 para U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Otra puntuación and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script. It is also used in the scripts Bopomofo, Hangul, Han, Hiragana, Katakana, Yi.

The glyph is not a composition. Its East Asian Width is wide. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is not mirrored. U+30FB prohibits line breaks before its position. There might be some exceptions, though. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

The CLDR project calls this character “punto medio katakana” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: katakana, punto, punto volado, puntos.

El Wikipedia tiene la siguiente información acerca de este punto de código:

An interpunct ⟨·⟩, also known as an interpoint, middle dot, middot, centered dot or centred dot, is a punctuation mark consisting of a vertically centered dot used for interword separation in Classical Latin. (Word-separating spaces did not appear until some time between 600 and 800 CE.) It appears in a variety of uses in some modern languages and is present in Unicode as U+00B7 · MIDDLE DOT.

The multiplication dot (Unicode U+22C5 DOT OPERATOR) is frequently used in mathematical and scientific notation, and it may differ in appearance from the interpunct.
