U+02DD Double Acute Accent

U+02DD was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+02B0 to U+02FF Spacing Modifier Letters in the U+0000 to U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Modifier Symbol and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script.

The glyph is a compatibility composition of the glyphs Glyph for U+0020 Space, Glyph for U+030B Combining Double Acute Accent. Its width in East Asian texts is determined by its context. It can be displayed wide or narrow. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is not mirrored. If its East Asian Width is “narrow”, U+02DD forms a word with similar characters, which prevents a line break inside it. Otherwise it allows line breaks around it, except in some numeric contexts. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

The Wikipedia has the following information about this codepoint:

The double acute accent (◌̋) is a diacritic mark of the Latin and Cyrillic scripts. It is used primarily in Hungarian or Chuvash, and consequently it is sometimes referred to by typographers as hungarumlaut. The signs formed with a regular umlaut are letters in their own right in the Hungarian alphabet—for instance, they are separate letters for the purpose of collation. Letters with the double acute, however, are considered variants of their equivalents with the umlaut, being thought of as having both an umlaut and an acute accent.
