This character is a Uppercase Letter and is mainly used in the Latin script. Its lowercase variant is Glifo para U+00E7 Latin Small Letter C with Cedilla.

The glyph is a canonical composition of the glyphs Glifo para U+0043 Latin Capital Letter C, Glifo para U+0327 Combining Cedilla. It has no designated width in East Asian texts. In bidirectional text it is written from left to right. When changing direction it is not mirrored. The word that U+00C7 forms with similar adjacent characters prevents a line break inside it. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

La C cedilla o C caudata (Ç o ç), también llamada cze, cezeta, çe o sencillamente cedilla o caudata, es una letra que consiste en una C latina con una pequeña z (zetilla) en forma de virgulilla debajo. Es originaria de España y aunque el español la abandonó tras el reajuste de las sibilantes, es usada actualmente en los alfabetos de otros idiomas como el portugués, francés, catalán, occitano, albanés, turco y azerí

La ce con cedilla servía para representar en español el mismo sonido que ⟨ce⟩ y ⟨ci⟩ pero delante de las vocales a, o y u: ça, ço y çu (por ejemplo «plaça»). Para ello en esa época no servía la letra Z, porque za, zo y zu tenían un sonido distinto, más suave. Se trata de una c con una virgulilla debajo. El nombre «cedilla» es el diminutivo de ceda la pronunciación antigua del nombre de la letra Z. Su grafía es una evolución de la zeda en la escritura visigótica al imbricarse gráficamente con un rasgueo o copete curvo, tan grande, que se asemejaba y evocaba la c latina aunque no lo fuera, dando el siguiente resultado aproximado: ZC (Ꝣ).[1]​

Se usa para un sonido [s] en portugués, francés, catalán, occitano y albanés; en turco y azerí se usa para representar [tʃ]. También se usó en español medieval para representar un sonido parecido a [ts].

También es usada por algunos escritores gallegos.
