U+2013 was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+2000 para U+206F General Punctuation in the U+0000 para U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Dash Punctuation and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script.

The glyph is not a composition. Its width in East Asian texts is determined by its context. It can be displayed wide or narrow. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is not mirrored. It will not end a sentence. U+2013 offers a line break opportunity after its position. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

The CLDR project calls this character “guion corto” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: guion, semimenos.

La semirraya, guion medio o raya menor (–) es un signo de puntuación que consiste en un trazo horizontal de medio cuadratín (aunque según el tipo de letra puede ser algo más largo o corto). Algunos autores llaman también menos a este signo, al igual que antaño también se llamó menos a la raya, pero en Unicode es un carácter distinto de estos dos. Es más corta que la raya, pero más larga que el guion. Tiene la misma medida que el signo menos que se utiliza en las matemáticas.

No forma parte del sistema ortográfico del español. Es anglicismo su uso en intervalos o para separar fechas, por ejemplo. A veces se emplea como alternativa estilística de la raya en medidas cortas, pero no es una práctica habitual.[1]​[2]​
